This is so cool! But what country are they from? “Africa” is really vague.

Their names are Duro-Aina Adebola, Akindele Abiola, Faleke Oluwatoyin, and Bello Eniola and they’re from Lagos, Nigeria. There’s a neat video about them here.

#when will people start giving names to young non-white scientists??#bc that shit is getting old

Find Your Doctor Who Birthday Episode!

With a show that’s been around for as long as Doctor Who has, there have been a lot (A LOT) of episodes. And maybe at some point you’ve thought to yourself “Hey, I wonder what episode premiered on my birthday!” We think things like this all the time.

    image

Up until now the question plagued our minds with no easy answer. We spent many sleepless nights pondering the thought, tossing and turning in our Adipose beds thinking “What episode premiered on our birthday? What episode premiered on our birthday How can we possibly find out

This was a clear moment of weakness, as we forgot that the internet existed and it was something we could just search. But why do that when you can just go to tardisday.com? Enter your birthday and bam! It’s as easy as

    Richard MacDonald

Educated in painting and illustration at the Art Center College of Design, MacDonald was successful as a commercial illustrator until his late thirties when a fire destroyed his studio, along with the accumulated works of his career as painter and illustrator. Subsequently, he began sculpting in earnest and within ten years became one of the most collected present-day figurative sculptors in America. His work has been acquired for the permanent collections of corporations such as AT&T, IBM, and Anheuser-Busch, as well as notable private collections. His work has been described as “paying tribute to the eloquence of the human form.” He is an advocate of neo-realism and figurative art, and has fostered emerging and professional artists through annual international Masters Workshops

  11. Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. […] Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution, and that Albert Einstein discovered the relativity of time. But when it comes to the composition of our universe, the textbooks simply say that the most abundant atom in the universe is hydrogen. And no one ever wonders how we know.
Jeremy Knowles, discussing the complete lack of recognition Cecilia Payne gets, even today, for her revolutionary discovery. (via alliterate)

Those people depend upon herd immunity to protect them. People who choose not to vaccinate their children against infectious diseases are putting not only their own children at risk, but also other people’s children.

Dear parents, you are being lied to. (via disabilityhistory)

Spread this around, PLEASE. If you know someone who’s on the fence, or just outright antivax, give it to them. Much of the US is already below herd immunity requirements for measles, and some parts are susceptible to polio. If they balk, direct them to Michael Oldstone’s book, Viruses, Plagues, & History, for an accessible and accurate look at what these viruses do.

By the way, I’m still taking immunosuppressive drugs. I can’t even get near my mom today because she’s sick. How long do you think I’d last in an unvaccinated world? I’m one of the strongest ones. Vaccination refusal puts more than just a few at risk.
